Let me talk about goal setting today. And trust me, this one is going to be crazy and wild š
I know it is a new year and most of you are doing your vision boards and setting goals for the year. As for me…
I simply DON’T SET GOALS
Why? Because a goal is simply a target that says, “I need to achieve X by this time.” I have set numerous goals over the years only for life to have its twists and turns. I have countless goals set on my past diaries.
Some goals I achieved in a week, and others I haven’t achieved till date. I realized I was locking myself on a target that became my measure of success, my yardstick and my epitome of progress.
I realized that resentment came because I couldn’t achieve goals, Motivational speakers pumped me up. They told me to do monitoring and evaluation, a reconnaissance of where I went wrong and started adjusting lots of things that bore no fruit.
There are goals I set in 2011 that I haven’t achieved till date. It is still a wish list that looks long gone. But when I look through my life over the years; the experience, the loss, the joy, the happiness, the people I have met, the deals I have made, the deals I have lost, my weaknesses, my bravery, my resilience, all these have shaped me.
I learnt that I don’t need to create another yardstick, I don’t need to create another path. I realized that I don’t need to create another plan or set another goal. Everything was set for me. God says in Jeremiah 29:11 that He alone knows the plan.
My Creator knew my path way before he created me and He told me that he makes me known the path of life (Psalms16:11) and His word is lamp over my feet and a light to my path (Psalms 119:105).
That same word says that his kingdom is within me so that means the purpose, the plan, the path is all within me, I just have to discover it. I just need to seek first His kingdom (which is within me) and all things shall be added unto me (Matt 6:33)
I also realized that I cannot control the output. All I need is to control the input. I just need to put in the work – Whatsoever your hands finds to do, do as if for the Lord (Colossians 3:22-25).
When you focus so much on the output, you might be bitter because you will not appreciate the process. It is not the last stroke of the hammer that makes the rock break but every small continuous effort counts.
You may have been working so hard and waiting for this breakthrough for years but it seems like it is a forgotten dream. Don’t quit just yet, focus on that continuous effort.
God says, be fruitful and multiply (Gen 1:28). A fruit only needs to nurture its own fruit on the inside, if it focuses on the forest its seeds will create, it will lose the meaning of fruitfulness.
Are you fruitful? You have to be fruitful first to multiply! For you to be fruitful, you must know that your purpose is to nurture the seed, not fantasize on the forest and the best way to get started is by downloading this FREE e-book on purpose – https://siloma.co.ke/get-rooted
