Recently, someone told me, “Siloma, I wish I had your brain, I will not be where I am at in life.” I told him that he shouldn’t compare himself with me, there is nothing stopping him from having a brilliant brain, he can always achieve anything if he wanted to.”
Going back home, I realized that am a culprit of the very same thinking. I have in the past thought, “If only I had resources, if only I had powerful connections or was born in a royal family, I would have easily achieved my purpose.”
Most, if not all of us have compared our lives, abilities, thinking and lifestyle with others not knowing that comparison is the thief of joy. When you compare yourself with others you are deliberately undermining the person you are and whatever gifts you have.
You are simply saying, “I don’t matter, I am not better than them, their journey is far much better than mine.” Don’t compare your Grade 2 with someone’s Grade 9. We are in different paths and levels in life.
The only person you are supposed to compare yourself with is yourself. Ask yourself, am I a better person than I was yesterday? Have I improved in just 1% of the person I was yesterday?
You can and you will!
