Take The First Small Step

You might have come across the term, “Start small, start wherever you are or make it exist first then improve on it later!” You might have heard the saying, “The first step/move doesn’t need to be perfect.”

A child’s first step wasn’t perfect. They just woke up one day and thought, “Maybe it is time to take the first step.” And they fell numerous times, they hurt themselves but at no one time did they say, “Maybe walking is not for me!”

And that is how you, the kid who was relentless, determined, hopeful and focused learnt how to walk. There was no one to talk you down into walking because you couldn’t hear. You didn’t read a research paper that told you the risks of walking or how many people have died from walking.

We clap when kids take their first step, we celebrate this amazing milestone. Most times when you take your first step as an adult, nobody is there to celebrate or clap for you. In fact, most eagerly wait to see if you will make it.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment, it doesn’t exist, don’t wait for someone to clap for you to continue the journey. Be that kid who was full of faith, relentless, hopeful and brave. Don’t look at external conditions, don’t let people talk you down on what you want to build.

Above all, shut your mouth. Don’t share your ideas with everyone, as a kid, you never told anyone you wanted to start walking. In an instant, you stood up and started walking by the edges of the table and everyone was amazed. Be that brilliant kid.
