Every day you wake up with a choice. A choice to live and a choice to die. You may ask how one chooses to live when they are already breathing. Well, so many people choose death every single day. They simply wake up to die.
So how does one choose death? How is one dead but breathing? Are there walking deads? Let’s look into this scripture.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
Why would Moses ask the Israelites to choose life? Forget the Israelites, isn’t it in any man’s common sense to choose life over death?
I recently wrote on my social media, “I am a spirit in a body not a body with a spirit.” I confused several people with that phrase. So many humans know that they are bodies with a spirit. They know that they are entirely flesh with feelings that drive their senses.
In Matthew 26:41 when Jesus finds His disciples sleeping He tells them that, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Note that He doesn’t say that the flesh is willing. Note that the same Bible says that we should not gratify the desires of the body. It doesn’t say the desires of the spirit.
You are not flesh, there is actually nothing physical about you. You are entirely spiritual. As I say that you have a choice to live or die I simply put that you have a choice to think that you are merely flesh with feelings (which is death) or you are a spirit inside a body (which is life).
The Bible says that you should walk in faith and not sight. Faith doesn’t come from the flesh. It also adds that without faith you cannot please God. Simply put, it affirms that you cannot please God if you do not live in the spirit. If you do not walk in the spirit you cannot do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Christ doesn’t strengthen a body.
For you to walk from glory to glory like Enoch you must worship God in spirit and truth as in John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.” For you to overcome, you must live in the spirit. For you to have or increase your faith you must walk in the spirit.
If your mother is in the village, you do not expect to travel to New York to visit her. If true riches are in heaven, I do not expect to find them in Hades. If prosperity is in the knowledge of God I do not expect to find it in books or religion.
The Bible says that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. It is sad that so many people seek Him in the flesh. It is in the flesh that they think they please God. Most will go to Church every Sunday, give huge portions of their wealth and go to prayer mountains to fast and pray but will not get any reward. This is because they do all these in their flesh forgetting that God is not pleased by the matters of the flesh.
Why would Jesus let a prostitute clean His feet? Why would He dine with tax collectors? Why would He say that the woman who gave two small copper coins had given more than anyone else? In the flesh, prostitutes and tax collectors were the filth of the society but the holiest Son of God gave them a proper audience. In the flesh, the woman who gave two copper coins was the poorest of them all but in the kingdom, she was regarded as the richest than the wealthiest of the earth. These people were not walking in the flesh, the posture of their spirits was not as of the religious Pharisees.
Most Christians, especially those stuck in religion, spend their lifetime trying to please God by their bodily actions. Because the flesh is dead, they interpret the Bible carnally and end up arguing with other Christians on who is right. They spend more time binding the devil rather than smiling in bliss. They get everything through pain and blood but preach that in Christ there is peace and blessing. What a great irony!
Yes, there is the power of life and death at your disposal but you were not told to pray seven times a day nor pray at the highest peak of the mountain. Religion has put many Christians in chains and blinded them from seeing the beauty and glory of life which is in Christ Jesus. So how does one choose life?
Jesus said in John 14:6 that “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He also said in John 7:38 that “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
So there is no other way, there is no other truth and no other life apart from Jesus Himself. And this is not just about receiving Christ as your personal savior; that is the start of the journey. Jesus went on to say that whoever believes in Him rivers of living water will flow from within them.
What are these rivers of living waters? Well, rivers of living water are beautiful mansions, beautiful cars, beautiful marriages, beautiful kids, beautiful health, etc. God did not create you to suffer. Your life in itself should evangelize about the beauty and glory of God. But first, you must make a choice, a choice of whether to eat from the tree of life or from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
I will advise that you eat from the tree of life.
